Award an honour to Alleycat Loga, fans and local music industry, says family
GEORGE TOWN: It was an emotional affair for the late Loganathan Arumugum’s wife Susan Lovie when she received a state award posthumously conferred on him.
The Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which carries the title of Datuk was given to the Alleycats singer fondly known as Loga who succumbed to lung cancer in June 2007.
Lovie, 53, said she had to calm herself before receiving the award from Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at Dewan Sri Pinang here yesterday.
“I broke down during rehearsal a day before and was totally blank, but today I told myself to be calm.
“I felt his presence in the hall when I was receiving the award. There was a loud noise in the hall just before I went up on stage,” she added.
Also present were Loga’s son Vigeshwaran, 26, and daughter Priyadashini, 21.
Lovie said she was honoured that her husband’s contributions had been recognised. “This is for his family, friends, fans and the music industry,” she added while showing the award to reporters.
North Sumatra governor Syamsul Arifin SE who was conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri which carries the title Datuk Seri said he was honoured to receive the award.
“I am happy to note that the conferment of the award will strengthen bilateral ties between Penang and Sumatra,” he said.
Penang Down Syndrome Association adviser Dr Sim Joo Seng who received the Darjah Johan Negeri (DJN) said people should serve the community without thinking of getting rewards.
“It’s great if one is acknowledged for his work and given an award, but if one is not picked for the award, he should still serve the people,” he added.
Earlier, Abdul Rahman said despite heading the state’s administration for only 16 months, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his state executive councillors had developed the Penang.
“I want to urge the public, private sector and the rakyat to fully give their support to the state government,” he added.
Abdul Rahman said the people must be willing to accept changes for the betterment of the state.
“I am happy to note that the state is looking into the welfare of the poor, monitoring the implementation of projects and enhancing moral values.
“In the race to develop the state, I hope they will maintain Penang’s natural environment,” he said.

Anugerah kepada Loganathan, pengiktirafan muzik tanah air
PULAU PINANG 11 Julai — Isteri kepada penyanyi kumpulan Alleycats, yang menerima Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) bagi pihak mendiang suaminya, Loganathan Arumugum, menyifatkan anugerah yang diberikan kepada suaminya itu sebagai pengiktirafan kepada industri muzik tanah air.
Loga adalah antara 793 penerima darjah kebesaran, bintang dan pingat sempena hari jadi Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas yang ke-71 hari ini.
Darjah yang diberikan kepada mendiang membawa gelaran Datuk.
Isteri Loga, Susan Lovei, 53, berkata anugerah itu turut ditujukannya kepada keluarga, rakan-rakan dan terutama kepada para peminat yang sentiasa menyokong Loga semasa menceburi dunia muzik selama ini.
“Saya menerima pingat ini bagi pihak industri muzik, keluarga, rakan-rakan dan peminat beliau,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas menerima pingat tersebut.
Mendiang yang dilahirkan di Pulau Pinang pada 1953 merupakan pemain flut selain vokalis kedua bagi kumpulan Alleycats, meninggal pada 4 Jun 2007 akibat barah paru-baru pada usia 54 tahun.
Susan ditemani anaknya, Vigneshwaran, 26, dan Priyadarshini, 21, di majlis tersebut.
“Semalam ketika mengadakan raptai saya rasa sangat sedih. Hari ini saya kuatkan semangat untuk datang menerima pingat ini,” katanya.
Kumpulan Alleycats dari Pulau Pinang terkenal sejak 70-an dan popular dengan lagu-lagu yang sehingga kini masih segar dan menyentuh perasaan pendengar seperti Sampaikan Salam Cinta Ku Padanya, Sekuntum Mawar Merah Sebuah Puisi dan Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu Sebelummu.
Lagu Kasih Tak Kesampaian yang dimuatkan dalam album terbaru Alleycats, berjudul Rasa merupakan single terakhir Loga.
